The University Health Center offers mental health services including psychiatry, stress management, and energy healing. The University Counseling and Testing Center provides counseling and crisis services separate from the University Health Center, although they are located in the same building.
The University Health Center provides specialty mental health services, which include evaluation and treatment by psychiatrists and psychiatric mental health nurse practitioners in addition to the mental health services provided by the primary care clinicians. Requests for specialty care are reviewed by our psychiatric triage nurse and a clinician to determine the appropriateness for this level of care. Decisions are made on a case by case basis. Students may be referred to psychiatric providers in the community. Despite active recruitment, there is a shortage of psychiatrists in the Eugene-Springfield area. We recommend that stable students who are already being treated by a psychiatrist or primary care clinician at home remain under the care of their current providers if possible.
PeaceHealth Sacred Heart Medical Center—University District also has a psychiatric unit and an emergency department staffed with mental health crisis workers just a couple blocks west of campus.
The University Health Center does not generally perform evaluations or prescribe medications for ADHD.
If you are taking medications for ADHD prescribed elsewhere, we encourage you to continue your treatment relationship with your own physician, as UHC clinicians do not provide refills for ADHD prescriptions originating elsewhere. Outside prescriptions, however, can be filled at the University Health Center pharmacy.
Learning to manage stress can help you now as a student, as well as equip you to deal with life's challenges throughout your lifetime. We offer a variety of services, both at the health center and the Duck Nest.
Call University Health Center to sign up for a class, or to make an appointment for energy healing or a free stress management consult.
