Insurance Requirements for International Students

The University of Oregon requires that all international students and their eligible dependents have health insurance. All international students are automatically enrolled in and billed for the UO Student Health Benefits Plan.

New international students must complete an insurance compliance form prior to UO course registration. You can find this form and submit an insurance waiver request form through the myUOHealth student portal. Translated forms are also available for your reference.

The UO Student Health Benefits Plan gives you the best value and coverage at University Health Services and in the Eugene area. However, if you are an international student with other health insurance, you may request a waiver if your plan meets or exceeds the university's standards. Be sure to carefully review the UO health insurance waiver criteria before purchasing any alternative health plan.

The waiver request form (with step-by-step instructions) can be found at myUOHealth, under the "Forms" tab. Incomplete or inaccurate waiver submissions will not be considered.

Domestic students are not required to have health insurance. However, all students are encouraged to have adequate health insurance which works well in the Eugene area, in case of health emergencies and unexpected medical expenses.
